Responsive Classroom

WHAT IS IT

Responsive Classroom offers free articles and classroom resources with a focus on social and academic skills with a culturally responsive lens. The downloadable resources include graphic organizers which are easily adaptable to various units of study. There are resources specifically targeted at diversity, equity, and inclusion. There is a YouTube channel with professional development and modeling videos educators can use to learn responsive classroom techniques. 


WHY WE LIKE IT

EMPOWERMENT—The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) awarded Responsive Classroom their highest designation. 

FLEXIBILITY—Responsive Classroom emphasizes developmentally responsive teaching based on a deep understanding of students' social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. 

CURIOSITY—RC encourages a learner-centered approach to academics, with fun, relevant lessons that invite participation. 

UTILITITY—Teachers who attend Responsive Classroom trainings receive ongoing support for implementation. 


TIPS 

If possible, utilize both professional development and curricular resources for the best outcomes. 

Keep several graphic organizers handy to give students choice in their organizational work.
