WHAT IT IS 

Newsela is a Common Core standards-based, cross-curricular instructional tool. Educators can find reading level-appropriate non-fiction texts to support students in ELA, Science, and Social Studies. 

WHY WE LIKE IT 

EMPOWERMENT—Newsela supports multilingual learners with readings in both English and Spanish and enables students to annotate as they read. 

FLEXIBILITY—Lexile levels will automatically adjust based on student performance or can be manually adjusted by educators. 

CURIOSITY—Newsela offers ready-to-use lessons, as well as tools for building your own unique learning experience for students grades 3-12. 

UTILITY—Newsela provides leveled texts on a wide variety of topics to support learning across content areas. 

TIPS 

Newsela allows educators to create “text sets” and grouped assignments so students can move at their own pace.
